Over the weekend, the game developers introduced a new game mode called Relaxed Breakthrough. To put it simply, this mode resembles the regular Breakthrough setup but features a few notable changes:
So essentially, this mode delivers on its title: it offers a laid-back version of Breakthrough. On the surface, one could assume it's a good idea, since it provides more options for players looking for alternative ways to enjoy the title. However, if video games have taught us anything, it is that you can't please everyone. Which is to say, many Battlefield 6 players are upset.
"People want human opponents. Don't repeat the errors of your rivals," states a response to the official announcement. "Absolutely shocking idea," comments another. Meanwhile, in community forums, a player remarks, "It's unclear where we are headed with this game," and someone else lists all the issues they believe to be broken in Battlefield 6: "Resolve glitches, address drone issues, correct rocket mechanics, adjust aiming after sprinting, fix awful hit registration. We don't need this AI-heavy playlist."
On the other hand, for every complaint, there are players explaining how much they're liking the new mode. "It's very fun to warm up, real players keep it from being a total farmfest but it's very relaxed," says a forum post. "This subreddit fails to see that there are players who have lives and don't play this title 24/7. Let them find a middle ground," states a different comment. A response on Twitter clarifies that as they're "a parent gamer with busy schedules, this is perfect for me," while another applauds the mode for "avoiding intense competition."
Despite the support, there are constructive reasons to criticize Casual Breakthrough. A few folks have pointed out that it could increase wait times even longer for different playlists because of the large amount of playlists in the game already. On a similar note, some areas already encounter AI-filled matches in the existing playlists. It also seems a little backwards that the mode does not begin without a required amount of real players, despite it focuses mostly on combat against bots.
Lastly, a major complaints is that a previous feature was meant to offer full XP, including AI matches, but that was removed when they tried to eliminate bot farms from the mode. Thus this new playlist feels like the player base meeting them in the middle, as per forum feedback. A different user labels this addition as the developers "making a mistake significantly, I had so much fun in the first couple of days, what prompted them to change it?"
If Battlefield Studios has demonstrated something so far with the latest installment, it is that they're listening and responding to feedback. Assignments that were overly hard got fixed rapidly, just like the required Redsec challenges. Chances are that, if their data indicates this new playlist isn't performing to their standards, they will not hesitate to make further modifications.
