Former President Donald Trump revealed on the weekend that he has extended an invitation the relatives of a Guard member killed last week to visit the presidential home.
He noted that he contacted her family and they were âheartbrokenâ.
US army specialist Sarah Beckstrom, 20, was lost her life in a shooting on last Wednesday in the nation's capital.
Her comrade, Staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, 24, is still in the hospital in grave state.
Gatherings across West Virginia have taken place in their remembrance.
The president said heâs talked about a meeting at the presidential residence for the parents of both members of the West Virginia Guard.
âI said: âWhen youâre prepared, because thatâs a tough thing, arrive at the White House. Weâre going to pay tribute to her,â the president addressed the press. âAnd in the same way with him, whether he recovers or not.â
Attendees assembled over the weekend at Webster County high school in the state to pay respects to Beckstrom.
Both she and Wolfe had been serving with the military unit as part of Trumpâs government program to support policing efforts in DC.
âSarah was the type of pupil that educators wished for. She conducted herself with quiet strength, a bright grin and a positive energy that encouraged people around her,â Hankins, the principal of Beckstromâs alma mater, informed the Associated Press. âShe was sweet, caring and always willing to help others.â
Funeral plans for Beckstrom are still being arranged.
Officials have indicted a twenty-nine-year-old Afghan national with a charge of homicide and charges of attempted murder while armed.
The tragedy prompted the government to suspend refugee claims and cease granting entry permits to possessors of passports from Afghanistan.
The airman, a native of Martinsburg, started his military career in February 2019 and is a graduate of Musselman high school, per the news agency.
He remains under medical supervision and is âbattling to surviveâ, the stateâs governor the governor mentioned on television.
Attorney general Pam Bondi informed the program that she also intended to speak to Wolfeâs family.
Sarah, from her hometown, graduated from Webster County high school in June 2023 and enlisted soon after, working as a MP with excellence, as stated by the West Virginia National Guard.
âShe had a lot of compassion and she definitely had fortitude,â the governor informed the audience at the memorial. âThough her life was cut short, she has made an impact thatâs going to endure.â
