Nigel Farage Claims Educators of ‘Poisoning Our Kids’ on Race Issues

The political figure stated that teachers would go on strike shortly after a Reform UK election victory, accusing them of “poisoning our kids” by instructing children that African-Caribbean youth are oppressed and Caucasian students are perpetrators.

At a gathering for a Michigan-based religious institution, Farage outlined his viewpoint on the UK education system, stating that the “Marxist left” had “now in control of our education system”.

“I’m anticipating a teachers’ strike soon after winning the next general election,” he remarked during a Q&A session.

“They are corrupting young minds. They are telling them to be ashamed of their country. They are telling little Johnny, who’s eight, who is black that he is oppressed and little Oliver, who is white, who is eight that he is a perpetrator. They are dividing us, not uniting us. They are feeding this harmful mindset.”

In response to Farage’s claims, the head of a major education union dismissed the idea that the education system was controlled by Marxists as “nonsense”. Kebede noted that any strikes must relate to teachers’ terms and conditions, and questioned whether Reform would attack these right after taking office.

“Farage has built his public life on dog-whistle politics and now, similar to other figures, he is targeting educators and their organizations for a conflict,” Kebede stated.

“This is highly reckless. I don’t – and nor does my union – advocate such divisive theories as he claims … Should he become prime minister he would sell out our public services, particularly schooling … and he would be a disaster for students and learning.”

The party, which is leading the polls by about 10 points, has provided limited specifics on its educational plans and seems not to have designated an education lead.

Nonetheless, his comments suggested the party would overhaul the educational framework. He said: “We face an enormous task with education – truly monumental. And, it won’t happen quickly; it requires years, a long-term effort to reform.”

He stated that gen Z was more open to critical thinking, but millennials were “absolutely hopeless”.

Honoring a conservative activist, he commented: “My goal for schooling is to foster independent thought – to educate individuals that there are two points of view and you make up your own mind as opposed to what’s happening now where views are labeled good or bad. It’s a massive job in both Britain and America.”

Reform has previously clashed with the UK’s largest teaching union, after the union leader labeled them “extremist and prejudiced” and dismissed Farage as “a poundshop Donald Trump”.

The politician has charged the union head with being “an avowed radical” … someone who is absolutely determined that young minds be corrupted through education, their minds should be poisoned about everything to do with this country” and maintained that the union is trying to indoctrinate youth opposed to his party.

Almost one million people are employed in education in the UK, with educators comprising half and the others teaching assistants and support staff. The major education union has about 450,000 members.

National strikes over educators’ salaries and work environment in 2023 caused widespread disruption in schools and extensive missed instruction for children.

During the American gathering, Farage also vowed to promote the digital courses of the Christian college in the UK. He stated such groups were “part of the fightback”, noting: “I am serious. I will help attract vast numbers of young people to your online courses. I pledge this tonight and I’ll do that.”

The college, a small private Christian college, provides complimentary classes. Its website states: “Comprehensive learning is vital for well-being and to perpetuate the blessings of freedom. The college furnishes these beautiful courses for free to all who wish to learn.”
