Manchester United Poised to Secure German Striker Lea Schüller away from Bayern Munich

Manchester United are on the verge of sealing the deal for prolific German forward Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer from Bayern Munich.

A Major Signing for the WSL Side

The forward, with half a year left on her deal, has been a consistent goalscorer for her club and the national team. Having scored more than 100 goals for the German giants and scored 54 times in 82 caps for Germany. This signing is viewed as a major signing for the WSL side.

Her exit from Munich has been anticipated since she appeared to be holding back emotions while applauding the club's fans following a win over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

Reports in December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was set to lose one of its leading strikers. According to reports, the formalities for the transfer are now finalised.

Consistent Goal Threat to Boost the Forward Line

The 28-year-old’s arrival should represent a major uplift to United’s attacking options. She has been highly consistent with her finishing in Germany’s top flight.

  • Over seven consecutive seasons, up to and including the last term, she reached at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She won the Golden Boot in the 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.

Building Momentum at Old Trafford

The acquisition of Schüller’s signature comes at a time when the club appear to be building positive momentum.

Their recent performances feature qualifying for the European knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a victory in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

In the transfer market, the mid-season window has seen further business:

  1. The signing of Swedish right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japanese midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, who has become popular figure since joining in 2023.

On the midfielder's extension, a senior figure stated: “Miyazawa is now a critical component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability enables her and the team to dominate play from the middle of the park.”

The new defender, having arrived from a side from the NWSL, added: “You can sense how much the club have grown in the last few years, playing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and performing in the top European competition.”
